Disaster Relief - Where you can help your fellow members now!
The Santa Rosa family medicine residency building/clinic are severely damaged and several faculty/residents lost homes. Both residency programs are still operating and recruiting/interviewing. Learn more here. California Academy of Family Physicians Foundation (CAFP-F) is collecting contributions; their President-Elect Lisa Ward, who practices in Santa Rosa, will help coordinate the relief efforts. http://www.familydocs.org/firerelief.
The Indiana AFP is spearheading relief efforts to aid (generators, communication and supplies) Puerto Rico AFP members in caring for their devastated communities. Members of the Puerto Rico Academy of Family Physicians will personally accept and deliver supplies, and they will continue to do so as long as they are needed. The fund has raised over $72,000!
Newly approved Mission Vison and Values
The IAFP board evaluated and reviewed the IAFP's mission in a project started at the August retreat, and approved at the October 5 board meeting. You can see the new mission, vision and values here.
Reminder: Opening on IAFP Board of Directors Nominations are due by November 10.
There is an opening in the board class of 2018. The selected member will serve at the following three 2018 board meetings:
- Thurs., Jan. 18, 8-9 pm, via teleconference/webinar
- Sat., April 21, 9a-1p, at Elmhurst Hospital, Elmhurst, IL
- Weds., Aug. 29, 8-9 pm, via teleconference/webinar
The interim board member will be eligible to run for a full three-year term on the board in 2018. Read the full job description.

State Update
The Illinois General Assembly convened for the first part of Veto Session this week. They will return November 7-9 to complete their business for the current session.
Federal Update
AAFP President meets with CMS AAFP President Michael Munger, MD delivered family medicine's plea for relief directly to CMS Administrator Seema Verma to ease the outrageous regulatory burdens placed on physicians by public and private payers. Read his remarks here. On Thursday CMS launched an initiative to help it determine what provider regulations it should junk or revamp, citing growing concerns that its regulations are reducing the time providers spend with patients. As part of the Patient over Paperwork initiative, CMS officials will travel the country to gather information on the impact their regulations have,
