Rhoades, DO, FACP, Chief Medical Officer and Geriatrician, Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital, Downers Grove IL Panelists: Asim Jaffer, MD, Noman Shahid, MD, & Sharon Smaga, MD Description: Dr. Rhoades will discuss the impact Alzheimer's disease has on a family, and sometimes caring for the individual just isn't enough. He will discuss the diagnosis, staging and treatment approaches based on the stage of the illness. Followed by a panel of rural and suburban family physicians discussing best practices and area resources. Objectives: 1. Illustrate the importance of caring for the full family upon Alzheimer's diagnosis. 2. Discuss the three aspects of dementing illnesses: cognitive losses, functional decline and behavioral issues. 3. Evaluate treatment modalities for Alzheimer's disease. 4. Identify two resources that are available to suburban and rural healthcare providers. |
