Hosted by AdvocateAurora Health. This lecture will review the risks to patients with elevated BMI for both elective and non-elective surgery. Will review the preoperative planning, technology and instruments available to improve outcome. Depending on surgery needed a patient can be referred for medical weight loss management. In some cases bariatric surgery is appropriate before other elective surgery. Review the different pathophysiology in patients with obesity verses normal weight patients. Review evidence of success of medical and surgical management to show expectations for preoperative weight loss.

  • Examine the importance of helping your patient lose weight preoperatively when possible
