MFT Speakers

Lynda Alper,  LCPC  is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor.  She has worked at Carle Foundation Hospital as part of the Carle Family Medicine Residency as a faculty member since 1994.  Her primary role has been in the behavioral sciences curriculum development, education, and training of resident physicians. One of her long term “soapboxes” is physician wellness. She also works part time in a private practice.

James Besante, MD completed post-graduate medical training in internal medicine at Mount Auburn Hospital, a Harvard affiliated training program, and addiction medicine specialty training at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. He is board certified in internal medicine and an active member of the American Society of Addiction Medicine. Dr. Besante currently works in the Carle Addiction Recovery Center and holds an appointment as Clinical Assistant Professor at the Carle Illinois College of Medicine.

Robert Beutelspache is a Medical Cannabis Advocate who produced and created educational cannabis show based out of Illinois - "Cannapics." Robert also worked in the Illinois Cannabis Industry in 2016 and the CBD Industry in 2017. Robert does ultrasound modeling for students at Americans College-Chest Physicians and at RSNA for various manufacturers including GE & Siemens. Robert interviewed Raphael Mechoulam in 2016 and gave a speech on medical Cannabis at Elgin Community College in 2017.  Lectured  at Illinois State University October 2019.  He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts -Visual Effects & Motion Graphics 2006-2010 and Certificate from The Cannabis Career Institute 2011 (Budtending, Cultivation, Dispensary management, Edibles operation, & Cannabis business management

Wiliam Campbell, DO,  is double boarded in family medicine and pain management. He also represents IAFP both with RALI-IL and the Illinois Prescription Monitoring Program Advisory Council.  Dr. Campbell is chair of the IAFP Opioid Safety workgroup.  He graduated from Midwestern University/Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his family medicine residency at Franciscan St. James, Olympia Fields.

Sachin Dixit, MD, is the current chair of the board of IAFP, and immediate past president.  He is a Regional Medical Director for Advocate Medical Group and Medical Director for AMG Orland Park.  He represents IAFP as a delegate to the AAFP Congress of Delegates.  He graduated from Pramukhswami Med Coll in India.  He completed Cook County Hospital family medicine residency, serving as chief resident.

Bruce Hertz, MD, is a general internist, certified by the American College of Sports Medicine and Association of Ringside Physicians and practicing in Chicago’s near north suburbs.  He shares his practice with Grace Akiens, MD, an IAFP member.  He graduated from Ross University and completed his general internal medicine residency at Edgewater Hospital, Chicago.

Marian Sassetti, MD, of Lake Street Family Physicians, Oak Park, is a member of the IAFP Women In Leadership member interest group.  She is also a past board member of IAFP.  She graduated from Stanford Medical School and completed her residency in family medicine at Cook County Hospital.
