May 5, 2020 at 8pm CST - The Collaborative Care Model: Increasing Access to Behavioral Health
Presented by James G MacKenzie DO, Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist & Past President, Illinois Psychiatric Society Neha V. Gupta, MD | Medical Director of Collaborative Care, Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Internal Medicine at Rush University Medical Center. Shannon Goebel Paul, Executive Director, Plena Mind Center, LLC
Goals: (1) Evaluate the clear need to improve access to mental health services. Estimated waitlists nationally (and locally) are becoming prohibitive. (2) Recommend a novel treatment model which promotes psychiatrists working in collaboration with a network of primary care clinicians--ultimately addressing the needs of a much larger volume of patients as compared to the traditional “one-on-one” office-based model. (3) Interpret the unique training circumstances and understandable perspectives of non-psychiatrist physicians when considering prescribing psychotropic medications to children, adolescents and adults. (4) Provide examples of specific accomplishments and challenges we've experienced implementing collaborative care model in Illinois.
