Our Background

In 1987, the Illinois Academy of Family Physicians (IAFP) created the IAFP Foundation, which was later renamed the Family Health Foundation of Illinois. The Foundation shares resources and information with the AAFP Foundation's network of 39 affiliated chapter Foundations. The IAFP and its Foundation are two distinct organizations which enjoy a mutually beneficial relationship. The two are closely aligned in their missions and work together to achieve their common goal of improving healthcare for the people of Illinois. The Foundation exists to address the philanthropic needs of family physicians in Illinois while providing programs and support to family medicine residents and to medical students with the goal of attracting more Illinois medical students to train and practice in Illinois.

A vital element of the Foundation's mission is to encourage philanthropy by family physicians, the corporate community and the general public.  The IAFP Foundation has supported Illinois communities impacted by tornadoes (Harrisburg and Washington).

The Foundation supports Tar Wars, Family Medicine Midwest and IAFP student and resident member activities throughout the year.
