Learning Objectives:
- Understand behavioral health can be a very effective part of treatment during MAT but it is not intended to be a mandate for buprenorphine access.
- Recall that Buprenorphine treatment length is best measured in years rather than months.
- Understand that Universal Prescribing of daily doses at 16mg or less is substandard care not diversion mitigation.
- Explain that Toxicology testing can be used to help strengthen the therapeutic relationship when used to guide rather than discontinue buprenorphine treatment.
- Discuss that patients with imperfect results who have continued drug use during buprenorphine treatment should not have their medication discontinued just as a diabetic patient with imperfect glycemic control should not have their insulin stopped.
