Resident Scholarly Works Virtual Summit

Wednesday, May 29, 2024 - Presentations all day long!  Application form is due by May 13

Illinois Family Medicine Residents and Fellows are invited to compete in a statewide, online forum – no travel required!

Research may be completed or in-progress. We will have separate categories for each.  The top scoring presentation in each category will win an Amazon gift card (delivered electronically)

  • In order to be considered a Completed Project, your presentation should contain the following: background on your topic, a clinical question and hypothesis, discussion of methodology and/or intervention and discussion of results.
  • Research in Progress presentations do not need to have final analysis or results.  However, the participant should be able to discuss the other components of the project and the plan for the rest of the project.

Presentations are limited to a maximum 15 minutes and a maximum of 25 slides. (can be shorter).

Presentation time slots will be sent to the LEAD presenter only the week of May 13. The lead presenter must reply to accept that slot or request a different time, if needed and also inform all co-presenters directly.

All presentations (PowerPoint or Google slides) and head shot photos must be submitted by May 21 for review or you will not be allowed to present. You may update your presentation after May 21 if you need to.

Apply Now!

Live Presentations

Presenting residents will login to the virtual summit (held via Zoom) and present live to a panel of anonymous reviewers as well as any resident or faculty that may login and observe. If you miss your scheduled start time, there will not be another opportunity to present.
Residents must be at your computer with the presentation slides open and ready on your desktop. If you are using your computer microphone, please use a headset (to keep out surrounding background noise)  and be ready to Share Your Screen.
Moderator introduces the researcher and notifies the resident to start the presentation. Resident presenters advance their own slides from their computers.

We will offer an open practice time on the day before the webinar (Tuesday, May 28), for presenters who wish to test out their connection to the platform from their computer in advance and practice screen sharing.
Residents have up to 15 minutes to deliver the entire presentation. Presenters are limited to a maximum of 25 slides. There is a 2-minute warning to help presenters in ending on time. After the presentation, a 3-minute question and answer session follow with questions from two anonymous faculty reviewers.
Presenters in the 15-minute presentations are scored on
1)the quality of their research design,
2) the quality of their slides,
3) the relevance to family medicine,
4) their verbal presentation and
5) their responses to questions.

**Residents who are not presenting are welcome to login on to observe the presentations! All members will be invited to log in and observe presentations.  CME credit will be offered.

Consider live-streaming the virtual summit at your program so that residents and faculty can stop by and view at any time during their day!

Questions may be directed to Ginnie Flynn 773-754-1185 or [email protected].
